RFP - renewable energy projects on surface mine sites

A program of Marshall University’s Center for Environmental, Geotechnical and Applied Sciences (CEGAS)  are looking for non profits, government entities and higher education to apply for a grant of up to $45,000 to implement a renewable energy project (wind, solar and/or biomass) on a surface mine site.  Up to six grants will be awarded.  The request for proposal attached explains the terms and conditions in detail, but some items to remember are:


  • Only non-profits, government entities or higher education can apply
  • Requires a dollar for dollar match either in cash or in kind contribution.  
  • Match can include federal or state funding as long as it does not include Appalachian Regional Commission funding
  • Extensions are possible with Appalachian Regional Commission approval
  • Deadline for proposals are June 15th
