RFP - renewable energy projects on surface mine sites

A program of Marshall University’s Center for Environmental, Geotechnical and Applied Sciences (CEGAS)  are looking for non profits, government entities and higher education to apply for a grant of up to $45,000 to implement a renewable energy project (wind, solar and/or biomass) on a surface mine site.  Up to six grants will be awarded.  The request for proposal attached explains the terms and conditions in detail, but some items to remember are:

Biomass Fueled Electric Generation

Biomass-fueled electric generation capacity in the US.

This map was created using the EPA Integrated Planning Model Database for 2006 (http://www.epa.gov/airmarkt/progsregs/epa-ipm/index.html#needs).  This shows biomass-fired power generation capacity by State (View Map).

As you can see from the map, California has the highest capacity for biomass-power production (611 MW).  California is followed by ME and FL.  As of 2006, WV did not produce any power from biomass sources.
