The Appalachian Hardwood Center (ahc.caf.wvu.edu), in cooperation with the WV Division of Energy (www.energywv.org) the U.S. Department of Energy’s-Southeastern Biomass State and Regional Cooperative is hosting a educational conference on the opportunities for WV develop successful biomass related projects around its forest resource.
An introductory conference "BTUs From the Forest" was held during the summer of 2005. Approximately 100 attendees were presented with information on West Virginia's wood resource, forest products markets, and case studies from those who have successfully used wood as an energy source. We hope to expand upon the original conference by attracting more alternative energy project developers and wood products industry representatives to a central forum.
Invited speakers will cover topics ranging from the wood products supply chain and wood residue produced, to the barriers that may need to be addressed. We will also be covering carbon and how it relates to the management of our forest resource.
Our goal is to enable attendees to leave this conference knowledgeable on ways to use wood for energy, as well as develop a number of personal contacts with those interested in developing such projects in WV at a commercial scale.
This is conference has been approved for 8.5 CFE hours Category 1-CF.
Over 100 individuals have pre-registered for this meeting. Currently, registration is closed.
